Right, this London weekend thing

by soyunperdedor @ Tuesday, Sep. 01, 2009 - 19:47:25

19th / 20th, yes? Vicky and I are planning a weekend in London before uni starts again and think it would make an awful lot of sense to do it that weekend.

SO.

Who is organising the ruddy thing?
Which area should we book a hotel? Centrally?
Can we get a show of hands for who is going, please? Everyone seems to be umming and ahhing, COMMIT people!
Can we both walk around singing Rabbit Rabbit Rabbit over and over again, and live? We shall be COCK-ER-NEEEYS for the day, y'see, to blend in.

Weeellllll?

Just watch EastEnders a few times and listen to old Mo Harris..She'll teach ya how to talk like a proper cockney :))

I wanna come but London is a long way to go on my own..I fear I might get lost!

COME! We can meet up from the train! Oh it would be looooovely!

But London is big and scary ..And I would get the Paddington and panic! Unless I was chaperoned from that point onwards.. And money is an issue..if I can do it cheaply I will ..Would be grand to see ya agin :) x

Well we've not booked a hotel yet so might be able to do it cheaper if there are 3 of us...let's wait and see :D x

I'm definitely up for at least small fun/outing...

I'd try and make your hotel fairly central, for ease of getting to and from it, though this might make it enormously expensive... I know that there are some quite central Travelodges that people sometimes use from work that aren't too bad and there are some similar things around Kings Cross/Euston (which is a manky place to stay, but is easy to get to and not really a problem if all you're planning to do is sleep there anyway).

Of course, you're also welcome to stay in Hotel du Jennie if you don't get any better offers - I have sleeping space both on the sofa AND under the piano :)
Or I've got a really big bed - LBF and I could just shift over a bit ;)

LBF still thinks that I'm his Cockney Sparra - he'd be happy to give you some lessons.
I'm the least Cockney person on Earth - and he still, when imitating me, makes me sound like an Eastenders reject.

Oh - and yes - please sing as much as you please - is positively encouraged down in the Saaath.

Good tip about Kings Cross, but there are also cheap travel inns and lodges around the periphery of London which are about half an hour commute from the centre. The question is though, where are people meeting up and what time. The South Bank is a nice place to go and easy to reach as there is a good travel network and there are some good cafes and bars there. There is even a nice travel Inn (I think) at the back of the Anchor pub. But I think it is difficult for visitors to London to know which area to book accommodation in if they don't know which area they are meeting up in and let's face it, London is a sprawling city travelling from the east end to Kew Gardens for example takes as long as travelling from London to York. There are also other practicalities to consider for those of us who might be commuting in such as last train back from the venue to your home or hotel accommodation etc.
:)

This is indeed the crux of the matter, where we would be meeting...I might message Nici.

Yup, I think when this is known more people will be able to say whether or not they can make it.

Having Just recommended the Anchor, I just went to their site and it looks like it is full that weekend, but there are still rooms at Novotel close by for £130 (per room).
