Berlin Blog Meet 2009

by Rampage @ Wednesday, Apr. 01, 2009 - 12:00:59

I am very pleased to announce that there are a large number of bloggers making the trek to Berlin for this year's blogmeet.

Signed up thus far are LandersUK, scoobydoofus, soyunperdedor, malakeas, sweetymon, antlady69, GilreanH, la_spice, isadora101, sula36, nittygritty and yours truly, of course.

There's still LOADS of time to decide to come along if you haven't booked anything yet.

People are naturally arriving at different times - I will do my best to meet to meet everyone at airports or wherever, but if I can't I will sort you out with directions, etc.

The plan, tentative at the moment, is this:

Friday May 29th, at 1700 we shall meet at blog HQ and meet some of the team. There will be drinks and general refreshementy-type things. For a recent blog.de blogmeet, we set up a webcam and had a live stream online - might sort this out for the BCUK meet too.

Then around 1900, we will go for dinner. And this is where I would like to hear your opinions, as there are a number of options.
Option 1: a really excellent pizza place about fifteen minute's walk from blog HQ - run by Italians and very atmospheric.
Option 2: Some good old-fashioned German food with outstanding home-brewed beer. This place is about twenty minutes away on the u-bahn.
Option 3: Ethiopian food. This is where we were for last year's blogmeet and it was glorious. It's two stops from blog HQ.
Option 4: Something else. I am open to suggestions!

The Karneval will be in full swing on Saturday and Sunday, but for those of you that want to do some sightseeing, I was thinking of asking a friend of mine (who is a tour guide) to bring you around the sights on a walking tour. Only if people are interested though, buggering off and exploring on your own is also a great way to see the city.

So let me know what y'all think.

I am so very, very excited. I'm trying to stop myself saying uber excited. I know how very wrong that is.

Being a finicky eater and massively into meat, bread and cheese, I'm all for Italian or German. I feel Ethiopian would leave me wanting a kebab...

And walking tour and Karneval and anything and everything sounds good to me :D

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Me too, über excited sums it up pretty well.

There will be massive amounts of kebabage. The Ethiopian is really good - it is pretty much meat served on bread. :)

Let's just do all of the above, on different nights.

Whew - for a minute I thought you said cabbage!

Any good kebabage involves cabbage. ;)

Raw? - I hope so :)

I think so! Can't properly remember. I do remember Rampage forgetting the German for "garlic sauce" though.

;)

We'd better rustle up a quick sheet of useful phrases. I wonder what chilli sauce is?

scoobydoofusscoobydoofus pro
01/04/09 @ 13:49

We had some last year. Some of the phrases were very rude.

ps Google says "Chili-Sauce"

How could he forget the garlic one "Knoblauch-Sauce"? He was probably being coy! :))

The Ethiopian food was a bit like a curry. Meat in a sauce, served on flat breads. Was very good, and it all came on one big tray so we could try what everyone else had ordered (mainly cos nobody knew which was what).

Ooh, good. I was worried it would just be vegetariany stuff - you know, when they pulp an aubergine and call it a meal. Nah mate.

Let's just go to them all :D

scoobydoofusscoobydoofus pro
01/04/09 @ 13:42

There was veggie stuff too, I think, although Landers opted for a raw meat dish...

It comes with a sort of cottage cheese stuff too. All very nom.

You're really selling it to me now.

scoobydoofusscoobydoofus pro
01/04/09 @ 13:49

Did I mention how bloody cheap it was?

Indeed: the cottage cheese, veggie stuff and raw meat won't cost me a penny!

Will you be taking part in the festivities this year?

Fantastic!

I'm sure wherever you decide on there'll be something for eveyone.

The Ethiopean food shown on Landers blog looked rather interesting.

Although it's not a German dish I'd like to have a Wiener Schnitzel sometime over the weekend.

RampageRampage team
01/04/09 @ 12:27

The German place makes a mean Schnitzel. :)

We can try everything out actually, we have lots of time.

I feel confident I can get us to your place easily enough, if our arrival is a problem.

Foodwise, I'm easy. As others have said, we have a few days so we can do a few different venues! Hope the horrid ice-cream lady isn't there any more.

The walking tour sounds brilliant for one of the days, but there are some specific things I'd like to do this year. These include the Gemaldsgalerie (insert umlauts etc as necessary) to see that painting, and the Sealife Centre at the Radisson to see the Aquadom. Oh, and Checkpoint Charlie. And maybe the cathedral.

Happy to do those things alone or in small group, and they can bit fitted (fat?) in around other stuff.

I'm sure it would anyway, but the walking tour MUST include the Holocaust Memorial. Awesome (in the true meaning of the word) place.

Yes, I'm sure the Aquadom can be fat in. I don't know what it is, but it sounds like a great name for a sex toy.

*sigh*

It's that mahoosive aquarium I've told you about at least seven times now.

It's part of the Radisson hotel, but confusingly also the Sealife centre. €16 in. I have been researching! :)

At least seven times, Brad? At least seven? Is that a fact? Right.

Had you said 'the hotel with the column of fish'...

Very excited anyway :D but not about raw meat and cottage cheese.

scoobydoofusscoobydoofus pro
01/04/09 @ 14:02

Ok, maybe three.

Ignore the raw meat and cottage cheese, and focus on the kebabs, beer, jagermeister, schnapps, vodka, beer and beer.

There is a bar called "cake". There was no cake there, but it was cool, anyway.

i don't really mind, but if we go for pizza they have to have something gluten free, like risotto. Same for the ethiopian, do they serve it on anything other than flat bread?
really looking forward to this though :)

There are plenty of options to suit all needs in these places, I am pretty sure. :)

I wish I could come boo hoo!!

Never mind next year perhaps:)

As long as I get my fill of some German sausage I'm happy :) I have flight accommodation, passport and Euros. Whoopee! A good turn out - hope we get more latecomers... :)

I REALLY enjoyed the Ethiopian last time and I'm up for it again but I'll happily go with the masses and eat whatever.

SOOOOOOOO EXCITED!

BERLIN 2!

I've never had an Ethiopian, but really want some German food. It can't all be sausages and cabbages - can it?

RampageRampage team
02/04/09 @ 14:47

No indeed. Some of it is really good.

I will make it my mission to get you lots of yummy German grub. :)

Wish I (well, we) could but am seriously drained of cash :(

02/04/09 @ 14:48

Curses.

Well, as soon as the big contract comes in, I expect you to pop by. :)

Trust me, if funds allow it's a meet we'll definately make :)

Shh! You could make it a surprise for her!

Any restaurant is fine with me. So that's Friday sorted. I don't mind cooking a meal (dinner) for everyone either Saturday or the Sunday as we discussed. Hope that is okay but if not that's okay too. xxxx

I definitely would love to see The Amazing Ma in cooking action. We can talk about it when we are all here. x

Sure thing. I don't mind cooking for everyone coming to the blog meet and your roomies but it would be at your place I think. I don't mind buying the food and cooking up a storm. Let's chat about it when we see each other. xx

Likewise!

Just gimme a holler if you need me. :)

Murpheymole is coming !!!

I'm a bit late with my feedback - have you decided yet? (didn't bother to read ALL comments)

If possible, no German food please! It's way too greasy and heavy and indigestible! It'll leave everyone very tired.

Ethiopian sounds delicious. And I'm sure there are some excellent Indian places in Berlin, as an alternative.

And if you / we really can't agree on one and the same thing, you hardly ever go wrong with Italian.

Looking forward to it!!

Oh, meant to add: I'd be interested in a guided tour! Guided tours give you so much more information than running around town on your own.

And I'll try to squeeze in the Egyptian Museum, maybe early one morning, possibly with Spicey - and anyone else who's interested (and not too hung-over). ;)

RampageRampage team
28/04/09 @ 10:55

Good thinking. I will see if I can sort a tour for Saturday or Sunday. :)

RampageRampage team
28/04/09 @ 11:01

The Indian here is really dreadful unfortunately. At least the ones I have tried.

I think Italian is the best option, caters for all needs.

But we have a whole weekend, so we can try everything. :)
