Irish Blogmeet

by bloglikesit @ Monday, Mar. 03, 2008 - 15:04:55

I know there are quite a few blogmeets going on already this year, but would anybody be interested in a Summer blogmeet in Ireland? Galway to be precise.

It's a lovely little city, right on the coast, beautiful scenery and friendly people. There are plenty of lovely bars and hotels, live music somewhere every night. Perfect venue for a blogmeet.

There are three airports within easy reach (Shannon, Knock and Galway itself), with good transport links between them and Galway.

As I said, there are plenty of hotels, there's a hostel for very cheap accommodation, and Landers and I could put some people up - not sure how many exactly at the moment (it depends if you want to sleep on a bed or on the floor!).

I'm just trying to gauge how popular an idea it is before we arrange anything. If you're up for a meet over here in July or August, say so in a comment and specify which month would be better for you.

EDIT:

Judging by the comments, the UK August Bank Holiday weekend (23rd - 25th August) is looking good. Sunday night is a good night out in Galway, so that would work out quite well. I'll look into what's going on that weekend - there's often a festival of some description going on!

I'm most definitely up for that. Galway's great. Summer's tricky though, late Aug would be best for me due to work commitments.

But hurrah, Galway blogmeet! :)

Ok, one vote for late August!

Actually August would be a logical time for it. Less likely to be raining (not much though!) and the town will still be pleasant before the nasty students get back. :)

Summer in Ireland - the hot rainy season, as opposed to Winter, the cold rainy season.

I say "hot"...

Let's go with 'vaguely warm', or 'not ball-freezingly cold'. :)

Maybe we shouldn't write the Irish Tourism Board promotional literature, eh?

I will need to perform many sexual favors to and for the old man so he buys me a ticket book the tickets.

Hugs and kisses

Obviously, I included too many words in the above delete function. Damn this sparling wine.

Oooh I shall have a word with his nibs (I actually wrote nobs then by mistake!)

We definitely couldn't do july and I think N has a long weekend off late August in which we were going to try to go away somewhere just the two of us. So late august sounds good to me too

Assuming of course that his nibs say yes.

Well, Irish blogmeat tastes like Guinness.

Have you not had enough of me yet?

Are you free at the end of August?

Could well be.

Ooooh yes yes (our) bank holiday weekend. Thats the long weekend N has off who is by the way really rather interested in attending....

..as long as we can do the whole weekend cheaply enough ;)

Well, you can get flights cheap with Ryanair from East Mids, you could stay at ours or there are loads of hotels and B&Bs. It is a city, so beer can be expensive in some places, we'll find somewhere suitable I'm sure!

I've already looked  I'm a stickler for forward planning :)) We can fly out there on the friday or was it thursday (I can't remember) for £24.99 and fly back on the monday for £4.99!!

BARGAIN ;D

bloglikesitbloglikesit [Member]
04/03/08 @ 14:55

Groovy! Don't forget about taxes though, if you're looking at the ryanair site, you can go through the next few screens and it tells you what the total will be. They charge you for checking in, priority boarding, checked baggage, and paying by credit or debit card (not sure how else you're supposed to pay...) and they'll try to sell you travel insurance too.

If you can manage with just hand luggage (they are strict on size and weight) you can do online check-in, which gives you free priority boarding too.

But I don't suppose for a moment you'll be able to manage with just hand luggage...

Oh how my reputation precedes me!

Oh god I know, it'll probably end up costing us about three hundred quid just to get there :))

I shall do more in depth research

I'm quite disappointed you didn't suggest camping :>>

Apologies for shouting. Emotions run high. ;)

But Berlin is sooooooo much more interesting (and cheap) than Ireland.

Did I meantion cheaper?

It's cheaper. And better. Much better. And cheaper.

Did you mention something about it being cheap, I couldn't quite make it out?

I would lurve to come to this bloggity meet. Trying to get approval for time off in August but we are getting a new software program and it may be tricksey. If I don't come then, how about in November when I come over for the Second Annual Blog Meet? Maybe for a day or two?

Hugs and kisses

BTW, thank you for the bday card from you and Padders.

Not as yet. But will get cracking on that soon.

But of course! Anyone can come. I'll put up some firm details about dates, venues and hotels soon.

Two people I want to meet and can't due to being on holiday then lol:)

Oh well next time:)

Just wondering how long it would take me to drive there from Liverpool! With 5 of us that would split the cost of course!

scoobydoofusscoobydoofus pro
04/06/08 @ 13:51

Well, we drove to Dublin Airport in less than 3 hours the other week. So that, plus a bit extra from the port, plus however long it takes to get to Holyhead from Liverpool. Unless there's a ferry from Liverpool...
