Idea

by subville @ Tuesday, Mar. 11, 2008 - 21:09:19

When I was a member of a community on MSN Communities, we decided to have a big meet up. The best way, we discovered, was to hire a *youth hostel in the summer, for a weekend. Someone took charge of the hiring etc. Collected money from everyone who wanted to go and generally 'sorted it all out'.

It worked because it was a Christian group ;) I'm not sure how it would pan out with us lot, a heap of mixed carry oots (booze, for the non-Scots) and a bunch of complete nutters. But it's worth a thought, eh?

* the hostel was in Harrogate ... it was not bad, and pretty cheap

Irish Blogmeet

by bloglikesit @ Monday, Mar. 03, 2008 - 15:04:55

I know there are quite a few blogmeets going on already this year, but would anybody be interested in a Summer blogmeet in Ireland? Galway to be precise.

It's a lovely little city, right on the coast, beautiful scenery and friendly people. There are plenty of lovely bars and hotels, live music somewhere every night. Perfect venue for a blogmeet.

There are three airports within easy reach (Shannon, Knock and Galway itself), with good transport links between them and Galway.

As I said, there are plenty of hotels, there's a hostel for very cheap accommodation, and Landers and I could put some people up - not sure how many exactly at the moment (it depends if you want to sleep on a bed or on the floor!).

I'm just trying to gauge how popular an idea it is before we arrange anything. If you're up for a meet over here in July or August, say so in a comment and specify which month would be better for you.

EDIT:

Judging by the comments, the UK August Bank Holiday weekend (23rd - 25th August) is looking good. Sunday night is a good night out in Galway, so that would work out quite well. I'll look into what's going on that weekend - there's often a festival of some description going on!
